Lord Mayor says “Yes!”

The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor, Lisa-M. Scaffidi confirmed she will be returning to the Keep the Flame Alive Encore performance in April 2014. After speaking with her about the 2012 performance she was very enthusiastic to come back and show of her dancing talents once more. This will all be for the Children’s Leukaemia & Cancer Research Foundations new annual event Keep the Flame Alive. We look forward to seeing the Lord Mayor and all of the general public join us once more to showcase how talented Perth people are.

Mark Gibbens Join the Dots

markgibbbens250-232x300AN endurance walker will dedicate each day of his trek from Perth to Sydney early next year to someone who has had cancer, and is inviting nominations from the West Australian public. Mark Gibbens, 45, a registered nurse from Adelaide, aims to raise $100,000 for cancer research during his 5300km, three-month walk.

woolworths-2008-thanks-e1339291155223-150x150On Saturday November 22 at GreyhoundsWA, Cannington, Brad Bolin, Regional Manager Woolworths WA, presented Foundation Chairman Geoff Cattach with a cheque for $335,757 raised by Woolworths staff and supporters throughout Western Australia.In front of a large crowd Brad acknowledged the tremendous effort especially those at Karratha and Mandurah stores who between them raised in excess of $70,000.

Woolworths Support of Child Cancer Research

woolworths_present_check-300x243On the 24 November 2007, Woolworths (WA) held a special family night at Cannington Greyhounds. At this fun night, filled with music,bouncy castles, auctions and raffles a cheque was presented to Foundation Chairman, Geoff Cattach, for the magnificent amount of $304,409.01 by Woolworths (WA) Regional Manager – Brad Bolin.

These funds were raised during the 2007 ‘Fresh Future Campaign’ of which the Children’s Leukaemia & Cancer Research Foundation and Princess Margaret Hospital are the beneficiaries.

Our heartfelt thanks to all at Woolworths (WA) for their dedication and hardwork during, the 2007 campaign. Woolworths Staff & Customers have been our loyal supporters for many, many years.

Early in 2008 an additional amount of $17,569 was also received by the Foundation.

The Penguin Has Landed

peddling_penguin-150x150Sound, sound the clarion, fill the fife! To all the sensual world proclaim, One crowded hour of glorious life, Is worth an age without a name.

With these words written 200 years ago by Sir Walter Scott and made even more famous by one of the penguin’s heroes, the Tasmanian-born Vietnam war photojournalist Neil Davis, Prevelly’s favourite son, Patrick Thompson arrived beachside in Taree.

A small crowd of people gathered at the Old Bar beach to witness Patrick pour a bottle of water he has carried from Prevelly beach into the Tasman Ocean.

There were some very special friends to meet him at the beach including his two great nieces, Olivia and Hannah Lewis, Taree school girls, who along with their class have been great supporters of Patrick’s fund raising journey.
