Kerrin’s #WorldCancerDay Pledge

Today is World Cancer Day, an initiative that encourages everyone to speak out and stand up for a cancer-free future. It is also an important reminder that cancer can affect anyone, even children. CLCRF ambassador Kerrin Hampson is never one to shy away from speaking out about the gruelling disease, her son Marley was diagnosed with leukaemia over a decade ago and is still dealing with the side-effects to this day.

“What can I do?” asks Kerrin. “I can share Marley’s story. Increasing awareness that kids get cancer too is important. Those lucky enough to survive can be left with myriad side effects… or none. It’s a raffle no one wants to win. After 3-and-a-bit years of chemotherapy, Marley is now 7.5 years off treatment. Like many survivors, he will have appointment palooza next week. My wish is for kinder treatments so that others have a future filled with hope. The only way is up from here. I will raise funds for research and better outcomes.”

If you would like to learn more about Kerrin and Marley’s post-treatment story, you can revisit our latest appeal.

To support Kerrin and help us in our commitment to ensure more children can live long and fulfilling lives, make a donation towards childhood cancer research today.

The annual initiative is a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer. This year’s World Cancer Day Theme “I Am and I Will” is all about you and your commitment to act. Here are some simple ways you can take action this World Cancer Day (and every other day):

A barrel of funds raised for childhood cancer research

Last September, the Foundation received a very generous donation of $3,600 from The Old Barrelhouse. These funds were raised through a raffle, where whisky-enthusiasts purchased tickets for the chance to win a bottle of Jack Daniels Barrel Strength Whisky via a Facebook page called “Down Under JD Community.”

The first $1000 was raised in just 36 minutes and there were 106 different ticket holders, with a total of 722 tickets sold.

“The reason why we chose to support CLCRF is because cancer has touched both my business partner and I, losing family and friends in the past,” said David MK, co-owner of The Old Barrelhouse.

The Old Barrelhouse is an Australian owned and operated company, founded by two men with a shared passion for great whisky. The company sells a range of antique, limited edition and hard to find whiskies, and offers the largest Australian whisky portfolio on the planet.

We would like to thank The Old Barrelhouse, Down Under JD Community, and everyone who bought a raffle ticket. This incredible community support will go a long way in supporting childhood cancer research!

Become a regular giver in 2021

The beginning of a new year provides a great opportunity to set resolutions and think about what positive changes you can make in your life. Giving more regularly to charity is a simple yet powerful way to help make a real difference AND feel good about yourself!

No matter how big or small, a regular donation to CLCRF will help us continue the ground-breaking research into childhood cancers, so that future generations of children can live cancer-free.

Regular donations enable the Foundation to plan for the future and it will help give us the financial stability we need, especially after the uncertainty of 2020.

When becoming a regular giver, you can choose to donate weekly, monthly, quarterly or any other interval of your choice. You will then receive a one-off receipt at the end of each financial year so you can easily keep track of your tax-deductible gifts.

If you would like to become a regular giver, please contact our office at (08) 9363 7400 or send us an email to request a donation form.

Congratulations, Andrea!

Karate Kicking Childhood Cancer

Our good friends at West Coast Karate have done something very special for the Foundation this year. Every December, the club holds gradings for their clients, with each client paying a grading fee. This year, instead of charging their clients, the club has asked that they make a donation to support childhood cancer research at CLCRF.

A MyCause page was set up by the club, where clients could conveniently process their donations online. This is such a generous initiative, and we are thrilled to announce that a total of $1,835 was donated to the Foundation!

Thank you to Brian and Shelley Sullivan for coming up with this wonderful idea and setting it into motion. Thank you also to all of the clients who donated. These funds will go a long way in continuing the ground-breaking research into childhood cancers.

West Coast Karate is an independent club in Willetton that aims to provide a safe and friendly environment for the practice of karate as a fun, active and healthy activity. If you would like to learn more about the club and get involved, head to their website for more information.

CLCRF’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

2020 is a milestone year for CLCRF, as it marks our 40th Anniversary of raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer research. With the COVID-19 pandemic, and all of the restrictions that have come with it, we were not sure if we were going to be able to celebrate this incredible accomplishment this year.

After having to scrap our plans for a celebration earlier in the year, we made the decision to merge our 40th Anniversary Celebration with our Annual General Meeting (AGM), after restrictions were eased and the Department of Health allowed it. Both events were held at Ambrose Estate at the scenic Wembley Golf Course on Monday, December 7.
