Get ready for some friendly rivalry at Cycle for a Cure! We’re thrilled to have not one, but two outstanding researchers from the Telethon Kids Cancer Centre joining us on the exhilarating four-day adventure from 19-22 October.

Meet Darcy, a former competitive cyclist turned Honours Student. He is currently assisting the research into new preclinical models for neuroblastoma, a complex childhood cancer of the nerve cells and the most common solid tumour in children outside the brain.

In the other corner, we have James, another dedicated student researcher delving into the effects of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia on bone marrow blood vessels, aiming to uncover new therapeutic targets.

Darcy and James both understand the significance of raising funds to allow their important projects to continue. Let’s see who can raise the most funds in this exciting showdown for a great cause! Join the bike ride that makes a difference

We’ve CHANGED things up! For 21 years, CCRF has run a 7-day ride from Perth to Augusta. We’ve now condensed it and made it a tad more challenging. Do you think you’d be up for it?

Keep the Flame Alive Quiz Night Raises over $40,000 for Child Cancer Research

The Child Cancer Research Foundation’s annual Keep the Flame Alive Quiz Night exceeded all expectations on Saturday 22 July 2023, raising a remarkable $42,381.05 for childhood cancer research.

The event, made possible by the unwavering dedication of our incredible volunteers and generous supporters, brought together an enthusiastic crowd to Ascot Racecourse, all eager to make a difference in the lives of children battling a cancer diagnosis.

A heartfelt appreciation goes out to our volunteers who selflessly dedicated their time and efforts to make the Quiz Night a resounding success. Their hard work and passion behind the scenes truly made a difference in raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.

This year, our commitment to sustainability and environmental friendliness shone brightly. We made the conscious decision to avoid the use of plastic wrapping for our hampers and opted for a digital silent auction to minimise paper consumption.

Our online silent auction was an exciting new twist for our Quiz Night, offering our supporters the chance to bid on items before the event, whether they were attending on the night or not. Facilitating our online silent auction was the Helping Hand Group who also sourced some of the exciting auction items that were on offer, including a guitar signed by Ed Sheeran and a football boot signed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

We were once again in awe of the amount of incredible Australian businesses who kindly donated products for us to use as auction items and prizes on the night. We would not have been able to reach such an incredible result without their generosity. A big thank you to everyone who donated.

Finally, we thank every single person who came to the Quiz Night and generously contributed to our cause. The funds raised will provide hope to families facing childhood cancer and empower researchers to make ground-breaking discoveries for future generations.

As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, let us continue to keep the flame alive and support initiatives that aim to eradicate childhood cancer once and for all.

Rock n roll and research collide at our Family Night Out on Sunday 22 October at Fairbridge Village Oval in Pinjarra.

Dress up in your best 80s attire and get ready to embark on a nostalgic journey as we revisit the greatest hits from the biggest blockbusters of the era, performed by The VHS Pirates. This one-of-a-kind event promises to be a feast for the ears and eyes, combining classic 80s tunes with the ultimate flashbacks on screen.

Featuring an all-star band fronted by Western Australia’s own Courtney Murphy, a fan favourite from Australian Idol, and joined by the talented Michael DeGrussa, known for his work with Eskimo Joe, this event promises a night of unforgettable performances. With huge singalong choruses and blistering sax solos, The VHS Pirates will take you on a musical journey through the most iconic hits of the 80s.

Our Keep the Flame Alive Quiz Night is a much-anticipated event that brings together CCRF supporters and trivia enthusiasts looking to contribute to a worthy cause. This year’s Quiz Night will be taking place on Saturday 22 July at Ascot Racecourse.

This promises to be an exciting evening filled with so many opportunities to win some awesome prizes. In addition to the main quiz, there will be a door prize, raffles, a huge silent auction, and other fun games throughout the evening.

Our 29th Annual General Meeting

On Wednesday 14 December, our Foundation held it’s 29^th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the South of Perth Yacht Club. This was a stunning new location for our AGM, where members were able to take in the picturesque views of the Swan River.

Secretary and Chief Executive Office Andrea Alexander gave her reports on the Foundation’s operations and achievements during the 2021/2022 financial year, alongside Chairman Geoff Cattach.

Guests were also treated to a brief presentation by Associate Professor Joost Lesterhuis, who shared an exciting update about the Sarcoma Research Program that we are helping to fund at the Telethon Kids Cancer Centre.

Joost and his team have lead a unique clinical trial in pet dogs that could pave the way for a new immunotherapy treatment for Sarcoma. The treatment is a polymer-filled gel which is loaded with immunotherapy drugs and can be applied inside the surgical wound when a patient has a sarcoma tumour removed.

It was wonderful for our members to be able to hear from Joost, to understand more clearly where their donations are going and the ground-breaking research that they are helping to fund.

As always, the AGM was followed by our annual End of Year Celebration, where members and guests enjoyed refreshments and delicious canapés served by the friendly South of Perth Yacht Club staff.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday. Our members are critical to the ongoing success of our Foundation. 40 Ways in 40 Days Wrap Up

Can you believe our Foundation has been around for 42 years now?! Saturday 21 May marked the anniversary of CLCRF’s inception and, to celebrate, we have shared forty different fundraising ideas across our social media channels to stimulate your philanthropic endeavours. We’ve called it 40 Ways in 40 Days.

As our Foundation receives very limited government funding, it is only through the generosity of our wonderful supporters that we can continue funding the vital research into childhood cancers.

Get ready to beat child cancer on ya bum!

Our South West Bike Trek is back for another year and we’re asking YOU to help us beat child cancer on ya bum!

This year will be the 21^st year of our live bike trek, where riders set out on a 600km journey through the beautiful South West region. The live South West Bike Trek has been the biggest fundraising event for CLCRF since its inception in 2002, raising over $810,000 for childhood cancer research.

The live event will begin on Sunday 9 October from Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth Foreshore with riders traveling across some of the most spectacular roads in WA before winding up in Augusta on Saturday 15 October.

Last year, we also introduced a virtual element to our South West Bike Trek, encouraging people from all around the world to take part from wherever they are. We are thrilled to say the virtual ride is back again this year! Participants can clock up their bike ride in their own time and at their own pace, commencing their preferred distance from Thursday 1 September and completing their kms by Sunday 16 October, 2022.

Whether you are an experienced cyclist or just getting started, this event is a great way to get fit, have fun and raise funds for an important cause. The virtual event also offers the perfect opportunity to get your workplace or school involved.

The joyous healing power of music will transport audiences when the Rhythms of Life concert takes the stage at the Quarry Amphitheatre, City Beach, on Saturday 12 March, in aid of the Children’s Leukaemia & Cancer Research Foundation (CLCRF).

Be inspired by world-class entertainers putting their heart and soul into their performances, featuring:

Steve Hensby Band – a renowned nine-piece covering a selection of funk, soul, and pop classics, with a sprinkling of originals thrown into their infectious mix. This force of nature features a healthy sized horn section, are very danceable and have been likened to the Cat Empire.
Rose Parker Band – dreamy songs of passion, longing and celebration with a summery vibe from one of the West’s most beloved and original indie-folk maestros.

All proceeds from the Rhythms of Life concert support the brilliant work of the CLCRF, raising vital funds for research into childhood cancers. Also supporting families as they negotiate the challenges of their child living with cancer.

It’s been a tough couple of years for the CLCRF family, with COVID forcing the cancellation of its last two fundraising concerts. The Rhythms of Life concert sees a triumphant return, with a smorgasbord of tunes that you’re sure to recognise. Performed by some of the West’s favourite sons and daughters you’ll be up dancing or singing along or enjoying your dinner on a CLCRF picnic blanket entranced by the power of their marvellous music.

The concert brings together the charity’s many supporters in an uplifting atmosphere of fun and, yes, celebration. The Foundation recognises WA’s Safe Transition Plan, a roadmap to 90% vaccination rates and the easing of border restrictions. The safety of our audience, employees and the community is our priority, and we will contact all ticket holders directly prior to this event with any additional requirements based on Government advice.
