Rebecca’s Charity Picnic

Rebecca Kenna-Gardiner is not one to shy away from a fundraising event. She organised her own high tea fundraiser for CLCRF back in May, and she volunteered for us at the Perth Tradies Expo and at our inaugural Beat Child Cancer Giving Day.

Now, Rebecca is taking her fundraising to Sir James Mitchell Park on Saturday 11 December, where she is hosting a Charity Picnic. The Picnic will take place from 12pm to 3pm where attendees can enjoy some yummy food while overlooking the beautiful city of Perth.

“Bring your wallets and spare change to win some raffle prizes,” said Rebecca. “They’re going to be amazing!”

Tickets for the picnic are just $35, which includes one entry into the raffle. All profits will be helping to fund the important research into childhood cancers.

There really is no better reason to get outside and enjoy our beautiful summer weather while eating some delicious food. Support childhood cancer research and buy your ticket today!

A musical fundraiser for CLCRF

A couple of our incredible young supporters, Ennika and DeriAnne, are organising an exciting event to raise funds for childhood cancer research. The sisters, along with some of their friends, will be performing at Westfield Carousel on Saturday 4 December from 11am to 3pm.

“The reason we have chosen to support CLCRF was because the girls’ aunt was diagnosed with cancer at a very young age,” explained their mother, Ellis. “The girls wanted to support cancer research that focusses on children.”

This is the fourth event that Ennika and DeriAnne have organised in support of our Foundation. We are so thankful for their efforts to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer research and wish them the best of luck for their event!

If you want to enjoy a live music performance by a team of passionate high school students while supporting a great cause, be sure to get down to Carousel on Saturday 4 December. If you can’t make it but still want to show your support, head to their Facebook Fundraiser page where you can make a donation directly to CLCRF.

Nambung Country Music Muster donates $5000 to CLCRF

The 2021 Nambung Country Music Muster took place on 21-24 October just two hours north of Perth in the Cervantes region. On all accounts, the 2021 event has been the most successful one yet, drawing a crowd of approximately 1,400 people in around 200 caravans, campers, and tents.

The popular four-day event has taken place on the third weekend of October since 2016 and has a heavy emphasis on featuring Western Australian talent. Not only do attendees get to enjoy music, dancing and a great country atmosphere, but they also get the pleasure of knowing they are helping to support important causes.

Nambung Station owners Gloria and Brain White announced that a total of $25,000 was raised at this year’s event. CLCRF is so thrilled to once again be one of the organisations benefitting from the funds raised, with a total of $5,000 going towards childhood cancer research!

We thank the Nambung Country Music Muster for their loyal support of our Foundation, and we congratulate them on another successful event. We look forward to continuing this relationship and wish them even more success in 2022!

South West Bike Trek 2021

Our annual South West Bike Trek is over for another year, with riders finishing their 6-day and 600 kilometre journey on 16 October. This year, the bike trek also went virtual for the first time ever, with supporters riding at their own place, in their own time.

This year, the bike trek saw 21 live riders and a handful of virtual riders raise a total of $43,392! We thank everyone who participated to help us reach this incredible result.

Riders of the live event travelled through the beautiful South West region, passing Fairbridge, Preston, Harvey, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River and Augusta. This event was once again organised by loyal CLCRF supporter Eric Maddock, with the help of his wife Annette.

“It’s over for another year and I think it all went well,” said Eric. “We met up with lots of good friends made over quite a few years. And once again, we’ve enjoyed raising awareness and funds for this great cause to help so many sick kids.”

The live riders experienced dreadful weather at the start of their journey, but they were not deterred. “On our second day, we had a shocker,” explained Eric. “Nobody was feeling great. But then I read a post from CLCRF about a poor little 8-year-old who lost his fight against leukaemia, and I remembered why we do this ride every year. We sat and cried.”

As always, there are many people and businesses that need to be thanked for helping our riders out along the way. A huge thank you to the following:

  • Binningup Seniors Club
  • Café Mooba
  • Jarra Infusion
  • The Beach Shak Café
  • Mr Barker Chicken
  • Coles Warnbro
  • IGA Shoalwater
  • Woolworths Greenfields
  • Smart Diet Solutions
  • Harvey Professional & Business Women

  • Eaton Scout Camp
  • Boyanup Lions
  • Busselton Rotary
  • Jurrian and Wendy at Camp Grace
  • Cowarramup Lions
  • Margaret River Rotary
  • Leeuwin Lions

“Without the help we get from all of these people, we could not do this,” expressed Eric. “So I must extend a huge thanks to each and every one of them and also to Annette Maddock and all the riders over the past 20 years; thank you guys and ladies for a great job.”

We thank Eric for his dedication and support. Year after year, Eric has led a safe and successful event, all for the love of the cause.  “My hope is we will continue towards a goal of zero deaths from this terrible illness,” Eric expressed.

We look forward to another successful event in 2022.

Gaels Got Talent!

In August 2021, our friends at Morley Gaels Gaelic Football Club held a talent show to raise funds for childhood cancer research, as well as for a club member going through their own cancer treatment.

Gaels Got Talent took place at The Irish Club Subiaco and all acts were welcome with open arms to help raise money for a good cause. Through ticket sales and a raffle, the Club was able to raise a total of $2645.94 for CLCRF!

The Club would like to thank all of the businesses that donated raffle prizes, the acts who put in so much time and effort for amazing performances, the volunteers who sold tickets and managed the set up and entry to the event, the judges, Willie Bolger who did a fantastic job of MC-ing, and Craic N’ On and Dan Noone who helped set up and manage the sound on the night.

Morely Gaels Gaelic Football club have been loyal supporters of the Foundation for many years now, and we thank them for coming up with this fun way to fundraise. This looked like a very entertaining night, and we hope to see them turn this into an annual event!

Containers for Change turns one

Friday, October 1, marked the first anniversary of the Containers for Change program, which allows people to exchange used drink containers for a ten-cent refund. Since its commencement last year, Western Australians have returned 765 million containers through 253 refund points across WA.

A key feature of the scheme has been the ability for people making container deposits to donate their refunds to community and charitable organisations of their choice. Western Australians have been generous with their refunds, with these organisations having received $2.5 million through the Containers for Change program.

In honour of the anniversary, CLCRF General Manager Kylie Dalton visited the Scouts WA Recycling Depot in Kenwick with Hon Matthew Swinbourn MLC, his wife Glenda and son Mitchell.

“Containers for Change have been a wonderful surprise for our Foundation,” said Kylie. “So many people in WA have really seen the benefits of recycling and support attaching that effort to charity.”

So far, CLCRF has raised approximately $1500 through Containers for Change. “Knowing the generosity of people in WA, we should see that total grow quite quickly,” said Kylie.

Please consider using our scheme ID: C10285275.

Eco Learning and Bush Kinder Kids Dress up for CLCRF

In August, Eco Learning and Bush Kinder Langford had a lot of fun celebrating Book Week at their centre. The children explored a variety of engaging experiences to further develop their love of books as well as their early literacy skills.

Families were invited to the centre to share favourites from home with classmates, and their community library saw much foot traffic, with children browsing different books to find that special one to take home for the evening.

To finish off the week, Eco Learning held a Book Week dress-up day, where the children and practitioners put together some amazing costumes portraying characters from their favourite books. All donations from this day went to CLCRF as their charity of choice, with a total of $85 raised. Everyone had a great week and they can’t wait to do it all again next year!

We thank Eco Learning and Bush Kinder Langford for their wonderful support.

A fine donation from Thornlie Bowling Club

For many years, CLCRF has received the generous support of the Thornlie Bowling Club. This year was no exception with the Club donating $860 towards childhood cancer research.

“At every bowling event, we have a fines session where we normally charge $1 per fine,” said Trevor Drummond, Thornlie Bowling Club Director. “These included fines for wrong bias, no names on a score card, not wearing the correct uniform, and anything else the fines master of the day could dream up.”

All funds raised through these fines were put in a donation tin that came directly to CLCRF. “Everyone was happy to see their fines go towards such an important cause,” expressed Trevor.

We would like to thank the Thornlie Bowling Club for their incredible support over the years. We also thank the bowlers who willingly paid their fines to our Foundation to help support the important research into childhood cancers.

St Ives Fete Day

On Sunday, 25 July, St Ives Retirement Living’s Northshore Village hosted a Fete Day to raise funds for childhood cancer research. The Fete Day included a white elephant stall, a chocolate wheel, cake stall, sausage sizzle, afternoon tea, children’s games, mini golf and so much more.

“Our fun Fete Day went off very well,” said Glenys Sefton, who ran the white elephant stall on the day. “Luckily the sun shone on Sunday afternoon and the attendance was outstanding.”

The Fete Day raised $3225 for the Foundation. This is an amazing result, and we are so thankful for all the residents and their generous families who helped raise these vital funds which will help improve outcomes for future generations of children diagnosed with cancer.

We also thank everyone who helped organise the event, including Maureen the head organiser. It sounds like this event went off without a hitch, so we congratulate everyone who was involved and helped on the day.

A fruity donation from Butler IGA Food Market & Northern Valley Packers

Northern Valley Packers have been running a competition each month since June, looking for the best in-store citrus display. The store with the best display is awarded a $2,500 donation which they can put towards a community project or charity of their choice.

In July, the winner of this exciting competition was Butler IGA Food Market who generously donated their funds towards CLCRF, to support the vital research into childhood cancers.

We are so grateful for Butler IGA Food Market’s decision to support our Foundation and we congratulate them on their win.

Butler IGA Food Market is a family-owned business that is passionate about giving back to the community. “We would like to thank all our staff who have helped with the fruit and veg area which allowed us to win the competition, in turn allowing us to support a worthy cause helping children with leukaemia and cancer,” expressed the General Manager of the store.

A big thank you to everyone at Butler IGA Food Market, Rebelo Group and, of course, Northern Valley Packers for creating this fun way for grocers to give back to the community.
