Ladybird CLCRF Mascot Dance-off at the Freo Dockers’ Game
Fremantle’s round 20 clash with Gold Coast on Saturday 5 August at Domain Stadium focused on several community organisations that are part of the Associate Friends of the Fremantle Dockers Foundation.
Children’s Leukaemia & Cancer Research Foundation (Inc.) was featured at the game and is one of the organisations proudly supported by the Fremantle Dockers Foundation this year. It was Fremantle’s second last game ever at Domain Stadium and they were victorious against the Gold Coast Suns, winning 90-67.
A pre-game and half-time mascot dance-off took place where Kiara Galipo, daughter of Jonelle Carlsson, whose family have been key long-time supporters and regular volunteers of CLCRF, wore an amazing red ladybird mascot to proudly represent the CLCRF in front of 40,000 spectators in the stadium.
Kiara made the costume herself within a week and explained why she decided to represent the Foundation. “I love making people smile with my costumes, so representing CLCRF was a great opportunity to support the kids! It’s the first time I’ve been to a live game and the atmosphere is great, not to mention the Dockers won!”
Sadly, Kiara’s father, Tony Galipo, who was a massive Fremantle Dockers fan, lost his fight to pancreatic cancer a few months earlier. Jonelle’s son, Jayden, was very excited to be at his first football game.
The game was a time for the family to show their tremendous support for the CLCRF, remember Tony, and celebrate his life together as a family. Thank you to Jonelle Carlsson and her family for their amazing ongoing support of the Foundation.
