Our Impact

The difference your support makes for children and families.

46 years of helping make progress possible.

Since 1980, Child Cancer Research Foundation has invested more than $45 million into childhood cancer research, helping researchers and research institutions search for better treatments and better outcomes for children with cancer.

Our impact isn’t ours alone. It belongs to generations of researchers, families, donors, volunteers, partners and supporters who have helped turn generosity into opportunity.

And it continues today.

The impact of staying

Research progress takes time. It builds as knowledge grows, discoveries lead to new questions and one generation of researchers builds on the work of another.

CCRF has provided sustained funding for childhood cancer research in Western Australia for more than four decades. That continuity has helped support the development of research capability that exists here today.

When CCRF celebrated outgoing Chairman Geoff Cattach AM after more than four decades of service, Professor Jonathan Carapetis AM, Executive Director of The Kids Research Institute Australia, reflected on the significance of that long-term support:

“We’ve just announced the most incredible initiative for the future of cancer research in Western Australia, a comprehensive kids’ cancer centre funded for 10 years by the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation. That could only have happened on the back of 40 years of support that came from Geoff and from the CCRF for everything. We wouldn’t be anywhere near being able to do this without Geoff.”

Today, CCRF is proud to continue supporting childhood cancer research within the WA Comprehensive Kids Cancer Centre.

Turning generosity into opportunity

CCRF doesn’t conduct the research we fund. Our role is to help provide researchers and research institutions with the funding they need to pursue better answers for childhood cancer.

That funding has supported research projects, scientific capability and generations of researchers working across different areas of childhood cancer.

Some research leads to discoveries. Some provides the evidence needed for the next study. Some helps researchers understand why treatments work, why they don’t, and how they might be improved.

Every contribution gives research another opportunity to move forward.

Impact is about more than survival

The ultimate measure of progress isn’t a research grant or a laboratory result. It is what that progress can mean for a child. More birthdays. More time with family. More opportunities to grow up and build a future.

Research has helped improve outcomes for many childhood cancers, but progress has not been equal. Some cancers remain incredibly difficult to treat, and the treatments that save lives can also leave lasting effects. That means there is still much more to do.

CCRF remains committed to funding research seeking better, more effective and less toxic treatments. We are also responding to the growing needs of young people living with the long-term impacts of childhood cancer through our AYA Survivorship Program.

Impact made possible by people

Behind every dollar CCRF has invested are people who chose to do something. Families. Donors. Volunteers. Community fundraisers. Corporate partners. Researchers. Survivors. People who left gifts in their Wills. People who gave once, and people who have supported CCRF for decades.

No single person created 46 years of impact.

It happened because people kept showing up.

And every person who supports CCRF today becomes part of what happens next.

Help make the next step possible.
